Sen-- Sag Harbor, Long Island

Sen is a Japanese restaurant that has killer meals, great service, and a beautiful interior design.  This time it is my mother's birthday, so it is a special meal out and we are going to feast.  We sit near the sushi bar and I see plenty of delicious meals going by!  For an appetizer, we order the shrimp tempura, which is my favorite dish on the menu!  The shrimp is so perfectly crispy, but so tender at the same time.  The new batter makes the shrimp more delicious than before.  Then we order the Usuzukuri, which is thin slices of fluke that you dip in a delicious sauce called ponzu, with self-added spicy daikon and scallions.  It is spectacular!  The fluke melts in your mouth, and the ponzu adds a tangy flavor, the daikon contributes a nice kick, and the scallions, of course, add a crunch.  We also have the Sen salad, which comes with greens, tomatos, radishes, blah blah.  Just seems like a typical salad to me.  For the main course, we share a large sushi plate, that include octopus sashimi, salmon sushi, spicy yellowtail rolls, and the orange jalapeno roll.  The octopus is a bit chewy.  The salmon is perfectly tender and melts in my mouth.  And it better be, because it's my favorite sushi!!!!   The spicy yellowtail roll actually has more of a kick than usual, and the yellowtail is sweet.  Now, the orange jalapeno.  What an interesting type of roll!  It has crunchy cucumber and asparagus on the inside with a touch of daikon, and the outside has salmon and tuna, topped with a thin slice of jalapeno and orange.  It is amazing!  One of the best combinations of sweet, salt, and spice I've had!  Will definitely come back for that!  Overall, I give Sen 4 1/2 pineapples.  Till next time- tdg
