Las Ficheras-- Lisbon, Portugal

Hello! I am on my spring break and I am in Lisbon, Portugal, to check out the beautiful city, museums, and eat their food! On the first night we went to a hip mexican spot right down the street from our hotel called Las Ficheras.  Everything else was pretty dead, but this place was packed, so we figured it would be worth a try.  The decoration was great; smooth wooden tables, jeweled skulls everywhere, and traditional wrestler masks displayed in plexiglass around the restaurant.  We began eating immediately-- I ordered the pork tacos marinated in orange with spicy pineapple and peppers.  And wow was that spicy!  The yellow pepper sauce added an extreme burn, but had a sweet aftertaste.  Usually it's the other way around.  The pork was a little bit chewy, but the pineapple contributed a needed juice.  I also had the chicken tacos, which were very simple (only came with cilantro and avocado), but the chicken itself hit the spot.  It seemed sort of BBQd, but at the same time very spicy.  It had a nice, dry, tender bite.  My dad ordered the chicken fajitas, and the cool thing about the dish is that it came with three different salsas in cute tin cups.  My mom had the best dish of the night-- a white fish ceviche with red peppers and mango.  I loved that it came on a big tortilla chip, and the ceviche had a super burn but left a great taste in your mouth.  Also, the fish melted in your mouth, and that is always necessary in a good ceviche.  Finally, the bill came in a wooden box.  That's just awesome.  Overall, I give Las Ficheras 3 1/2 pineapples.  Good start to Portugal! Till next time...
