We were wandering down a steep, long hill until we came across a Chinese restaurant called Mao. We were a bit tired of Korean food so it worked out perfectly. The place was bustling so we had to wait to get seated. The table only had one chair, so they brought me an extra fluffy red chinese fabric chair. Comfy! We were extremely hungry. The shredded pork was spectacular!!! They were thin as udon! They were hot, tender, and the black bean sauce gave a little sweetness. The shredded pork was topped over slivered leeks which gave a raw crunch. The beef sautee was tender but sometimes chewy. It was cooked in a black pepper marinade. I wouldn't say it was a highlight of the meal. The eggplant however was superb. When it arrived it was extremely hot and could easily burn your mouth. We blew on it for a while and slowly took bites. The flavor was spectacular. Eggplant juice exploded in your mouth with a pinch of saltiness, sweetness, and chilies in every bite. Best eggplant I've ever had. They served a cabbage kimchi, which was crunchy, spicy and not too funky. Korea has good Chinese food! Overall, I give Mao 4 1/2 pineapples. So close to perfect! See y'all-tdg
Ps- I wonder how good Thai and Japanese food is here?!
