Topping Rose House-- Bridgehampton, NY

Topping Rose House is a new hot spot in Bridgehampton, located inside a small, intimate hotel.  The restaurant is beautifully decorated with clean lines and nice artwork.  All the waiters and waitresses are very kind to us.  The menu is also small, but filled with a large variety of exquisite and delicious options.  To start, I order an appetizer of Pacherri Wild Boar Ragoût with mustard greens and shredded, aged goat cheese.   The pasta is cooked perfectly and has a nice bite.  The mustard greens are tender and delicious, and the aged goat cheese adds a nice mild flavor.  The boar is a bit too chunky which also made it a bit dry.  For my mom's appetizer, she orders the Spaghetti with lobster, tomato and calabrian chili.  Just like before, the spaghetti itself is delicious, and the lobster is perfectly cooked and sweet.  Both pastas were served really hot which is very important.  My dad has the Butternut squash agnolotti with mushrooms.  The dish is buttery and rich.  The mushrooms contribute an earthly flavor.  My mom and I share an entree of Pork loin, belly and sausage with a side of sliced cabbage, brussel sprouts, and apple pureè.  The loin seems a bit too dry for my taste, but my mom loved it.  The belly is fatty and salty, delicious.  The sausage isn't as I expected.  It is very ground up and fragile, but has a nice spicy flavor.  Yum!  Surprisingly, the brussel sprouts turn out to be separate leaves!  Very unique.  And the apple pureè is sweet, but way too rich.  I am only able to have a few bites.  For my dad's main course, he orders the Rohan Duck with sweet potatoes, and fresh syrah jus.  The duck is extremely tender and juicy.  The skin is nice and crispy.  Underneath the duck is a bed of swiss chard that is not overcooked; sauteed perfectly.  The whole dish has a very combined flavor, and works together really well.  After this spectacular large meal, we are all very full, so we decline the dessert menu.  But, because the manager knew it was a special occasion she sends us a dish of 3 brown sugar glazed doughnuts.  They are astounding, with fluffy dough and a sticky, hot glaze.  Overall, I give Topping Rose House 4 1/2 pineapples.  (FYI, they gave us bags of granola to go, and I had it with yogurt for breakfast this morning.  It was so good!)  Will definitely be back soon to try out their brunches! -tdg
