Union Square Cafe is definitely one of the most well known restaurants in Manhattan. And they are known for their great food, and their burger is no exception. The burger is pretty much what I came for! Union Square Cafe has a cozy and calm interior with not too much decoration-- they emphasize more on the food than the design, which I thouroughly appreciate. Speaking of food, let's get to it! To start, my dad ordered the squash soup with carmelized bananas. It was very creamy and sweet, but with a little bit of saltiness to add some texture. Definitely warmed me up on a cold day, too! The bananas added extra sweetness and complexity to the soup. For the entree, I had the USC burger with cheddar cheese and bacon. The brioche bun was perfectly toasted, the cheese perfectly melted, the bacon perfectly crispy, and the burger itself perfectly perfect. It was flecked throughout with onions and peppers, had a char on top with a juicy and tender inside. And the fries on the side were deliciously crispy with a soft center.
My dad ordered the yellowfin tuna burger with slaw on the side. It wasn't very tasty. The tuna was almost flavorless, and it made the bun a bit soggy. Let's just say if you want a burger, get the orginal. My mom ordered the grilled lamb chops. They were seasoned simply with salt and pepper, and were very very tender. The side was a potato gratin-- it was very rich and decadent. Potatoes weren't too mushy, and had layers of delicious gruyere cheese.
Overall, I was impressed by USC, well except for the Tuna burger. Don't get that. But the other two dishes were very tasty. I give it 4 pineapples. I'll be back before the end of the year. Till next time,
