Rumba- Hampton Bays, Long Island, NY

Rumba does exactly what Union Cantina should've done-- bring a hip, cool, and tasty Mexican restaurant to the Hamptons. And while UC did get the vibe and atmosphere partially right, they just couldn't nail the food. Rumba does everything and some. They're located right off a small bay, with some really pretty views. They have an extensive bar, great seating (inside and outside), an energetic atmosphere, and some absolutely delicious food. We each ordered our fair share of tacos. Many different options were included on the menu, but our collection included the fish tacos, pulled pork, fried shrimp, steak, and jerk chicken. The fish taco came nicely breaded with a crunchy slaw and a creamy aioli. The steak tacos were extremely tender, bursting with chipotle seasoning and accompanied by a fresh guac. The jerk chicken was slightly dry (needed some more jerk sauce) but it redeemed itself with a spectacular fruit salsa consisting of mango, melon, tomato, and cilantro. The shrimp taco was crunchy and sweet, and topped with the same delicious salsa. Now, to describe the true masterpiece. The pulled pork was perfectly tender, seasoned with a mix of a chipotle and American bbq sauce. While it looked drenched, it was actually the perfect amount of sauce to enhance the original flavors of the pork while not smothering them. The taco also came with a yummy, frizzled onion topping that added a much needed crunch. All the tacos had warm, homemade flour tortillas, that held together all the delicious concoctions of meat and sauce.
It's almost a guarantee that I will return to Rumba some day in the future. The menu has so many more options, and so many more tacos!!! I give it 4 1/2 pineapples.

Till next time!
