El Mercados could be considered the 'main' or 'central' dining area at the resort. It's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and has an extensive amount of buffet foods. Breakfasts consist of anything from fresh cantaloupe to hot omelettes. I found myself getting freshly-made omelettes every day, stuffed with cheese, ham, peppers, and spinach. However, as the week went on, I began ordering Huevos Rancheros, a classic Méxican breakfast- one egg over medium, covering black beans, pico de gallo, and a tortilla, topped with queso and your choice of hot sauce. The Huevos Rancheros tasted very authentic, and the flaming hot spicy sauce complemented the sweet tomatoes.
For lunch, especially since I was in Mexico, I consumed an abnormally large amount of tacos. There was a grill in the back where a chef would heat up corn tortillas for you, give you fresh protein options (steak, chorizo, shrimp and chicken) and then you could choose your toppings of cilantro, onions, jalapeños, and three different homemade sauces. The green sauce was extremely spicy but had a nuance of smokiness. Every taco was bursting with flavor, and every taco was extremely high quality. Who needs Chelsea Market?
Other options that were also available at lunch and dinner included a host of seafood, sushi, and jerk chicken. Seafood was a highlight- the chef was constantly preparing fresh calamari, shrimp, and fish filets on a giant flat grill. He drizzled garlic, olive oil, sea salt, and lime onto every dish.
Overall, a great buffet. Even though I mostly stuck to a few favorites, there are tons of combinations
that I wish I had tried. I give it 4 1/2 pineapples.
