Habaneros- Hyatt Ziva Resort, Cancun, Mexico
If El Mercados had good tacos, I couldn't imagine the quality of the tacos at a restaurant specifically devoted to them. Habaneros is located at the end of the main beach, a colorful, open-air shack with a few tables overlooking the stunning vista of the Carribean Sea. To start, we ordered the fluke ceviche and the tuna tartare tostadas- both were satisfying appetizers, but it's not what we came for. We ordered the battered cod tacos and the al pastor. The cod was fried perfectly, accompanied by a flavorful slaw and a delicious, light crema. The pork tacos were just as spectacular, with salty, spicy meat and juicy, sweet pineapple to accompany it. Both were served in hot, fresh corn tortillas. 5 pineapples.
