Pylos- 128 East 7th street (between 1st avenue & avenue A)

Five pineapples!!!  My family recently ate at Pylos, which is rustic greek home cooking.  We sat at the community table.  The entire ceiling is covered with pots! -- there are about 3,000 up there!  I wasn't going to bother counting.  First, they served warm pita with a dip made of black beans, garlic, potatoes and other spices.  It was delicious!  I loved the mix of the hot pita and cold dip.  As an appetizer, we ordered the kalamarakia tyganita, which is fried calamari.  OMG.  The calamari was extremely tender, with a crispy batter.  I dipped it in tabasco.  For my main course, I ordered the ta afrata keftedakia dis dianas.  Those are warm, soft, tender meatballs shaped like sliders.  Awesome meatballs.  Better than Forcella's giant meatball!  My mom ordered the marinated grilled baby lamp chops, with mini stuffed eggplants and fingerling potatoes.  The lamb was tender and juicy, and so good that you had to gnaw on the bones.  My dad ordered the pistachio crusted sea bass served with chard and spinach.  The sea bass was flaky and light and the pistachios added the perfect crunch complement.  We all shared a side of rice spinach pilaf.  What an interesting way to have rice and veggies.  The feta center added a nice salty flavor, but I don't like feta.  Can't wait to come back!  5 perfect pineapples!  Till next meal- tdg
