Golden unicorn dim sum- 18 East Broadway (Chinese new year special)
Happy Chinese New Year! Year of the dragon! And you know what that means.... Dim Sum!! :) It was the last day of the new year. My mom, dad and I got a seat quickly, even though it was packed. We sat with another couple at a 5 chair table. Immediately, we got a chinese broccoli that passed by. It was okay. Nothing great about it. We also got a bowl of steamed pork buns, which are my favorite. They were nice and hot, with a fluffy bun. The barbeque pork filling was good, but they could've been a little more generous. My dad and I got the pork shumai. They were improved with spicy mustard. A chef with a cart came by and made us vegetable dumplings, with spinach and a gingery flavor. But the best part of the whole meal was the peking duck. A guy came by with a glazed duck and I automatically knew that it was going to be SPECTACULAR. First, he got a fluffy white bun and spread it open on the plate. Then he cut a piece of the duck's thigh and put it on the bun. Then he added scallions, cucumbers and a spicy hoisin sauce. I could eat a dozen of those anytime. They were heaven! The bun was sweet, the pork was juicy, the sauce tangy, and the veggies crunchy. They were gone in 4 quick bites! I was pretty full after that, but our table mates gave me a salt and pepper shrimp, which was nice and crispy. That made me hungry for more so I ordered the shrimp shumai with my mom. I dipped them in spicy mustard, just like the pork. I thought the dim sum overall was very good, and I regret having only one of those duck buns. The broccoli could've had a lot more flavor. Overall, I give Golden Unicorn 4 pineapples. When we got downstairs, the parade was just going by. Cool dragons. See ya next meal- tdg
