Little Owl-90 Bedford St., NY

My mom wanted a delicious lunch on mother's day. We decided to go to one of her favorite places, Little Owl. It's a small, cramped restaurant, with a waiting couch up high. You have to climb some steps to get comfy. I saw a small kitchen in the background and there was a large bar with wines stored in the shelves on the wall.  The atmosphere was very cozy.  Luckily, we got a seat just in time. My dad and I ordered the gravy meatball sliders and my mom ordered the surf and turf tacos.  My dad also ordered a bib salad and spiced fries for the table. The golden beets in the salad was sweet, but the lettuce was a little sandy. The walnuts gave a crunch.  Not the best salad we've had.  I drank a peach soda. At first, it was too watery so I sent it back and they added more peach. Then, I felt like I was in the Bahamas drinking a tropical elixir...  My meatball sliders were perfect. The small bun was fluffy, and the bulging meatballs were juicy, soft and warm.  I couldn't tell which was the pork, veal, or beef-- they were all equally good.   The arugula added pizzaz. The fries were not spicy at all!  What are they talking about?  They were nice and crispy though. The taco was good. The beef was better with the toppings, the salmon was not the fish my mom really wanted. That's not your first choice for a fish taco.  I wasn't so impressed, but the sliders more than made up for it.  Overall, I give Little Owl 3 1/2 pineapples. Hoot! -tdg
