Jum Mum- 5 St. Marks Place, NY

We want buns again, but better ones.  There is a new spot right next to our house, so we decide to pop in.  It is small, only 3 tables, but the food looks delicious.  We order the emperor bun, which has pork, cilantro, lettuce and hoisin sauce.  The pork is very tender and a little sweet.  The cilantro adds a burst of powerful flavor but the lettuce doesn't do anything.  They wanted something in the bun to have a crunch, but iceberg tastes like nothing.  My mom suggests arugula.  The samurai bun comes with fried pork cutlet, iceberg lettuce, and barbeque japanese sauce, katsu.  We want to drink ice water, but the restaurant doesn't have any.  Who doesn't have ice water? So we share a coke.  The samurai bun is decent.  The fried pork is tasty, crispy, and warm.  Lettuce situation again.  It needs a little hot sauce to pop the flavor and a slaw would add crunch and flavor.  I take a picture with the manager at the end of the meal.  Overall, I give Jum Mum 3 pineapples.  Till next time-- tdg
