Pok Pok Wings-- 127 Columbia St, NY
We are hanging around the lower east side for a bite to eat for an hour, and I am starving. While walking back to our car to find another neighborhood, my mom spots Pok Pok Wings, which she had been dying to go to. And it's finally open. The spot is miniscule when we walk in, but crowded. A lot of people manage to squeeze in! They provide complimentary water in a silver urn, and when we ask what it is, they say it is a certain type of leaf added to water that makes it taste like rice water. My mom loves it, but dad and I think it is weird. We order 3 dishes of Ike's vietnamese fish sauce wings, available spicy. First of all, the wings are in one piece, so you have to get extremely messy and break it apart. The chicken is so tender, falling off the bone before you even take a bite! When it gets spicy, just pick up a carrot or daikon (which is a radish) to cool yourself down and add a crunch. They are a little sweet and sour. There should've been more of them. But back to the wings. DELICIOUS! They fill your mouth with a little sweetness, salt, and garlic-tang. And of course, fire. I think the wings are great and I will definitely come back for more. Overall, I give Pok Pok 4 poks! Till next time -tdg P.S. I still like good old buffalo wings better! :P
