Blue Duckery-- Prague, Czech Republic
The Blue Duckery is a cozy, beautifully decorated restaurant with a good reputation. The place seems very quaint, with Czech antiques and upholstered furniture. Too bad there is a cheesy pianist on a keyboard playing fur elise. Otherwise, a great atmosphere. We sit down next to the window, and a red&white duck figurine stares me down. Would love to see one of those in real life! The menu is filled with traditional czech food -- a lot of meats and poultry, --beef, pork, venison, boar, chicken, pheasant and duck (quack quack). My mom and I order the roasted duck with potato pancakes and brussel sprouts. The duck is confit and has a delicious, earthy flavor in each bite. The potato pancakes are absolutely spectacular-- golden, crispy and heart-warming. I could have a dozen of those. The brussel sprouts are soft and covered in a white sauce that enriches its flavor. Yum! My dad orders the pheasant in cherry sauce with potato croquettes. I have never tasted pheasant before, and I sure like it! It has a flavor that is very distinct from other poultry, but has no similarities to any meats that I've eaten. A cross of chicken and turkey. But the pheasant is delicious and the cherry sauce adds a sour note. I didn't try the potato croquettes, but they looked very hot and crispy. Blue Duckery was definitely the best Czech food we've had so far. At the large party table next to us, a waiter was preparing crepes flambee. After he put brandy in the pan, he tilted it so it caught on fire. It was beautiful and quite a show! It looked delicious, and I would love to take a bite! Overall, I give the Blue Duckery 4 1/2 pineapples. Na Shledanou- tdg
