Cherry is the new hit japanese restaurant in NYC, and my parents were dying to take me there. First of all, the red doorway to the restaurant itself is awesome. It looks like Bilbo Baggins doorway! Then you open a door and you walk down a dimly lit staircase, turn right, and welcome to Cherry! They checked our coats and sat us down at a lovely table with the most comfortable chairs I've ever sat on in a restaurant. All the food on the menu sounded spectacular, so it was pretty hard choosing what we wanted to eat. For our first appetizer, we decided on the black sea bass carpaccio. I've rarely had carpaccio in my life, and now I love it. It was so amazing! Carpaccio is thinly sliced raw protein. Right when you put it in your mouth, it melted into pure deliciousness. For our next course, we ordered various rolls. It came in a giant brass bowl with all the rolls laid out beautifully on long leaves. It included the yellowtail jalapeño, toro scallion, and crunchy red snapper rolls. The yellowtail jalapeño was brushed with a kimchee miso, yummy. I wasn't a huge fan of the toro scallion, but it was very creamy and melted in your mouth. The red snapper was the best out of the three. It came with arugula and asparagus, which both gave a nice crunch and peppery counter.
After those two amazing dishes, we were still quite hungry, so we ordered the duck à l'orange. The duck confit was pressed into a rectangle, with crispy exterior and tender interior. The kumquats, which are like baby oranges, were zesty and juicy. We also had the miso glazed sea bass, which was out-of-this-world tender. A crispy bed of rice was underneath, which sort of turned it into a miso glazed rice-cake. For our final part of this flawless meal, we ordered more rolls-- shrimp tempura roll and another yellowtail jalapeño roll. We also finished it off with four pieces of scottish salmon sushi. The salmon. OMG. That was the best piece of salmon sushi I've ever had in my life. No exaggeration. No joke. I don't know how food could possibly taste so good. I can't even describe it, the only thing I can tell you is order that when you get there. Wow. I am craving the sushi right now as I write this. Well, overall, I give Cherry 6 sushis. That's right. I went one over my limit. That's how amazing the meal was. Till next time-- tdg
