Cookshop-- 156 10 Ave, NY
Cookshop is a farm house American restaurant that is constantly packed and bustling with food. The decor and atmosphere makes it feel like a nice open loft. The menu isn't very attractive to me, but I decide on the mixed grill with rabbit loin, duck leg confit, turkey sausage, sauerkraut, and fingerling potatoes. This is absolutely a fabulous dish. The confit is tender and has a nice sweetness to it. The rabbit loin is different, and tastes more like poultry, but its texture is almost like a firm piece of fish. The turkey sausage is my favorite, and has a perfect amount of salt and spice. Now the sauerkraut. WOW. It is tart and so addicting, I keep stuffing it in my mouth. The fingerling potatoes don't have enough parsley so it is a bit bland. I ask for some tabasco, which makes everything great. My dad orders the Vermont lamb with chickpeas, wilted spinach, and mutsu apple. The piece of lamb is a little bit too thin, and is pretty average. All the sides are delicious, though. My mom orders the pork shoulder 'arista'. The meat is cooked tender, but you can't taste the brown sugar and mustard rubbings, which makes the dish sound special. So my mom sends it back. She decides on two sides-- brussel sprouts and the steak skewers. The brussel sprouts are served on a tiny cast iron skillet, which keeps it really hot and also comes with pecans, which adds a nutty flavor. The steak skewers have a nice char and is really juicy inside. She also steals a ton of my sauerkraut. Overall, I give Cookshop 4 pineapples. Till next time-tdg
