Biang! -157 2nd Avenue, NY

Biang in Chinese is an onomatopoeia of the sound noodles make when they are being hand pulled and slammed against a work surface. That's the whole focus of the restaurant-- hand-pulled, chewy, freshly made noodles. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was packed to the brim, and smelled really, really good. We started with the spicy cumin lamb noodles-- the noodles are flat, very wide and insanely long.  While the noodles were springy and unbelieveably delicious, it would've been better if they were cut a little shorter and weren't as slippery to handle. I found the dish to be lacking in lamb and any variety of vegetables. It was also just a bit overspiced. Next we ordered the Pork Zha Jian noodles-- this dish was better in terms of savory intense broth. Spot on in the flavor department. We also ordered some side dishes, such as the spicy and sour pork dumplings and the bok choy-- both good, but nothing special. We ended with Spicy Cumin BBQ Beef Skewers. Three generous portions, decently tender meat with nice char. Overall, Biang is definitely interesting-- I look forward to trying some of their other noodle dishes with broth, and since they just opened, I believe they have time to improve. Overall, 3 pineapples.

Till next time!
